OM Psychology in Fremantle
Fremantle (Walyalup) exudes a unique charm with its maritime heritage, bustling markets, and vibrant cultural scene. Fremantle has always had a gravitational pull, and once you’re here, you don’t want to leave. Amidst the scenic beauty and lively atmosphere, the role Psychologists play in Fremantle is immense. When I speak of Fremantle, I refer to it as is a collective entity. For those who have not experienced the fluctuating Fremantle Vibe, it is truly a place with a pulse.
I started my career as a Psychologist in Fremantle in 2018 working out of Job Active providers helping jobseekers overcome psychological and other social determinant barriers to finding employment. Recognising the perpetual nature of a number of these barriers made it even more special when I saw clients overcome these barriers and enter employment. To effectively serve the clients who presented, it was important to delve deep into understanding the fabric of the diverse community which is Fremantle. From the long-time residents who have weathered the gentrification for generations to the artists seeking inspiration from the coastal scenes, each individual carries their own narrative, shaped by experiences, culture, and surroundings.
After supporting Jobseekers for 2 and a half years, I moved into my area of passion which was working with young people. Landing at headspace Fremantle as a Psychologist was my dream job. Providing early psychological intervention to young people in the Fremantle area was the job I used to tell people I wanted when I first started my journey to becoming a Psychologist at university. Being able to work in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure clients were being provided holistic care was very special and whether it’s helping individuals navigate personal challenges, fostering resilience in the face of adversity, or guiding families through turbulent waters, their impact ripples through the community, enriching lives and strengthening social bonds.
Now finding myself located in a heritage building at the heart of Fremantle’s West End, I have to pinch myself. Being a Psychologist in Fremantle has been everything I could have imagined and more. Moving forward, I want to continue to not only provide Psychological services to individuals, but also nurture and promote mental well-being within the Fremantle community. Psychologists play a vital role in shaping a brighter, more compassionate future for Fremantle and its array of residents and visitors.
